The Journey

A few days ago, our little Guenther crew celebrated our “family day.”

If you’re wondering whether you missed a public holiday, don’t worry! We had our family’s version.

On July 14th, 2020, Nadine and I were in court when a judge said, “This petition is hereby granted.” That was the day that Uganda’s legal system officially acknowledged something that we had all known in our hearts for years: that Oliver and Finn were our sons, and we were a family.

Life is complex and challenging. We all feel that way at different times, and we can feel like it’s more complicated for us than for others. We can get stuck in the mud, feeling that pain and heartache.

So Nadine and I have found that finding time to celebrate is important. It’s not all sunshine and roses, but it sure does remind us of everything we’ve been able to get through. Our family day was full of joy, but there were also some harsh reminders of how hard it was to make it to that day in 2020. There were times when we didn’t think we would make it. There were days we were terrified. But hand in hand, we pushed through the tough stuff. Every milestone on a road like that is worth celebrating.

I hope you know you’ve been on this journey with us. Whether you’ve been following along for the last decade or this past year, you’ve been part of our victories along the way. We celebrated our family day this weekend as a direct result of the love, support, and prayers that have always come from our friends and family in this community.

Thank you for that gift. Thank you for journeying with us, helping us push forward, persevere, and fight for our family.

As life happens, the tough stuff always keeps on coming. But we don’t stop fighting through it because I know we’ve got work to do! We treasure our lives together as a family. We treasure the calling that God has laid upon our hearts. We know that this special gift that we get to celebrate – the gift of family – is something that every child needs.

So that brings me to the next big thing — the job isn’t done yet! If you haven’t checked out our work with Bezulu, I’d ask you to consider looking at our website and learning more about our critical work in Africa. Getting involved and making a massive difference in children’s lives is so easy. Every child needs a safe and loving family and our work through Bezulu will make that dream a reality.

Supporting Bezulu today will help us care for orphaned and vulnerable children. It will also help us rebuild families for these kids, help young adults transition from orphanages into real life, and safeguard families fighting to stay together.

If you haven’t made the leap of faith to Bezulu yet, please consider it! I know you’ll agree that every child deserves to celebrate their own family, just like we are privileged to do.

You are the reason we’ve made it this far. We relied on your support to get through the toughest times, and now we’re ready for the next challenge.

Thank you so much for all the love and support over the years.
