About Us.

Thank you for visiting our website!

We (Josh and Nadine) are both in our late twenties, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and have been married since 2009! We are both Registered Nurses with experience in emergency medicine and clinic management. In January 2013 we moved to the small central African country of Burundi and we’ve been Africa-bound ever since!

Burundi is one of the poorest and hungriest countries in the world. We moved to a rural district there called Gitega to work with Burundi Youth for Christ, a local NGO, in an effort to open and operate a rural health facility called Shammah Health Center.

Shammah is now well on it’s way towards self-sustainability while being completely locally run. To date, over 5,000 patients have received quality, affordable healthcare as the center continues to expand and develop!

In 2015 we took another massive step as we finished our work in Burundi and moved 500km north across two borders to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Here, Josh is now working with LifeNet International, a Christian international not-for-profit. LifeNet works with church-based health centers to improve their self-sustainability and quality of care through ongoing management and medical training. Nadine continues to find exciting opportunities to utilize her skills in assisting LifeNet, as well as other health facilities and organizations based in and around Kampala.

We LOVE life here. It’s challenging, exciting, amazing, surprising, frustrating, it’s everything for us. God has given us a passion for improving healthcare systems here in Central East Africa, and he’s giving us this incredible opportunity to serve in this way!

You can still support the work that is continuing in Burundi, and learn more at the Shammah Health Center website.

To learn more about how to support us directly, you can contribute to LifeNet International by visiting their website directly, or if you’re a Canadian you can make tax-receiptable donations through our partnership with Serving in Mission Canada.

As we travel through this exciting adventure, we’d love to share it with you! Please subscribe to the blog to receive all of our updates, stories and pictures!

Thanks again for visiting this page, and be sure to check back soon!

  1. I’m so blessed to hear about your opening day at the clinic. I cried reading your update and to hear about Teddy your first patient. It brings me such joy seeing how God is using you both. Danny and I are praying for Gods vision on how we can grow Burundi Christian Ministries of Windermere, FL to help those in need. Thank you for sharing your passion and taking the time to show us the clinic this past Thursday afternoon. I know you were both so busy. We will continue to pray for you and the clinic. Your brother and sister in Christ.
